Master Lawyer Akinwumi REJU

Akinwumi Reju, also known as Akin, is the Managing Partner (MP) at Topmarké Attorneys and one of the three founding partners of the firm. He is the lead attorney for the firm’s business and real estate law team, and his specialization extends to corporate law, commercial law, investment law, franchise law, real estate law, business immigration law, and technology law.Akin has over 31 years of legal experience as a transactional lawyer, having worked with multiple teams in the technology and business development sectors as an international business lawyer. After spending three years practicing in litigation early in his career in Nigeria, he transitioned into an in-house legal role with financial services companies, including Corporate Trust Group and Industrial & General Insurance Plc (IGI), where he rose through the ranks to become the Deputy General Counsel and also the Corporate Secretary of the company.Akin gained valuable experience in international corporate law by leading the legal negotiation team for the privatization of two public insurance companies in Uganda and Rwanda. These projects were supervised by the World Bank, and Akin served as both the corporate secretary and legal advisor to these companies. He also initiated the process of preparing the companies for listing on the Ugandan stock exchange. Akin was a member of the team that created the Global Trust Bank of Uganda, serving as its legal advisor during its formation and approval by the Bank of Uganda (BOU). Additionally, he served as team leader in negotiations for joint venture agreements between American and Canadian oil and gas companies and their Nigerian EPC counterparts. His areas of expertise also include corporate compliance, mining law, and corporate secretarial practice.Akin holds a law degree from the University of Benin and a professional certification as a chartered secretary. He has worked with executives and boards of directors in legal advisory, corporate management, and corporate secretarial functions. Akin also holds certifications in various areas of law, including mining law, intellectual property law, and is a member of several professional organizations.An associate member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries, UK, Akin was accredited by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries (ICS) Canada as a merit member in 2010.
